John left Thatcham Research in December 2013 after 8 1/2 years in the Media department. He was the lead in the department heading a team of 4 people. Since arriving there he was able to dramatically raise the quality and consistency of the media output and drove a greater creativity, accountability, quality, cost effectiveness and higher technical quality in all areas.
John's philosophy is always about making things the very best with what there is available and striving for the highest possible quality. Second best is not good enough.

I started the concept of the EPICS Academy whilst writing my first book about improving your skills with video and the moving image. My many years of experience in broadcast and music videos can demonstrate the different levels of action, lighting, using the location and showing your subject to the best in the situation.
The EPICS Academy is a variety of teaching from a memberships site at the Epics Vision Academy ( www.EpicsVisionAcademy.com) and hands on courses to show what it is like in real life situations when shooting a video sequence.

I write technical articles for this specialist Trade Press, and provide a link from the GBCT to the British Cinematography magazine. I am often requested to interview the likes of James Cameron and others.

I have close ties with American Cinematographer magazine, and have been invited many times to Los Angeles to write about the yearly Band Pro event.
